New York’s Wine Festival Is Hosting Its First Alcohol-Free Dinner
The New York City Wine & Food Festival still has whiskey, tequila, Champagne and three celebrities selling spirits. This year it also has a non-alcoholic dinner and a sober brunch hosted by mgk. That one weekend in October may be the clearest picture yet of where drinking is going.

In brief
- The 19th Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival runs October 15 to 18, 2026, with some ticketed dinners starting October 14. It features 50+ events and 300+ chefs, winemakers and mixologists.
- For the first time, according to festival coverage, it includes a fully non-alcoholic dinner, curated by chefs including Jonathon Sawyer and Gautier Coiffard.
- mgk, founder of 27 Club Coffee, hosts Morning Buzz, described as one of the festival’s first non-alcoholic events, on Sunday October 18 at the Rooftop at Pier 17, $169.99 including fees.
- Alcohol is everywhere else: Steak & Whiskey, Tacos & Tequila, Champagne brunches, Sylvester Stallone at a Carbonadi Vodka dinner, and Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul with Dos Hombres mezcal.
- This is not a festival turning away from alcohol. It is premium hospitality widening to serve drinkers, moderators and non-drinkers at the same table.
The New York City Wine & Food Festival still has whiskey.
It still has tequila. It still has Champagne.
It has Sylvester Stallone promoting vodka, and Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul flying the flag for their mezcal.
And this year, for the first time, it also has a non-alcoholic dinner. Then on Sunday morning, mgk, who has spoken publicly about his sobriety, hosts an alcohol-free brunch on the rooftop at Pier 17. That contrast tells you more about how Americans drink in 2026 than most sales charts: the can is growing, the no-alcohol shelf is growing, and celebrity spirits are still on the same bill.
What the festival is adding

There is a small detail on the festival’s own events page that says as much as the headline events. Its cocktail parties are described as places to sip and sample cocktails, wine and spirits, “plus NA.” Two letters, tacked on the end. That is what normalization looks like: not a separate wellness program, but a standard line on the menu.
Why mgk hosting it matters
The signal here is less the event than the host. A non-alcoholic brunch tucked into a wellness expo would be unremarkable. A sober brunch hosted by a mainstream music star, inside one of the country’s biggest wine and food festivals, priced like every other premium ticket on the program, is a statement that not drinking is now a premium occasion in its own right.
It is worth being precise about what that statement is. mgk founded 27 Club Coffee and has discussed his own sobriety; hosting a brunch is not a campaign telling anyone else to stop drinking, and it should not be read as one. What it does show is that the festival thinks a sober experience will sell at $169.99, on a rooftop, on the final morning of a wine festival. That is a commercial judgement, and it is the interesting one.
Alcohol has not gone anywhere
Here is the part that keeps this from being a lazy sobriety story. The festival is still overwhelmingly built around alcohol, and some of the most prominent names on the program are there to sell it.
Still on the program
- Steak & Whiskey
- Tacos & Tequila
- Champagne brunches
- Major wine tastings
- Spirits sponsors and cocktail parties
New this year
- A fully non-alcoholic dinner
- Morning Buzz, a sober brunch hosted by mgk
- “Plus NA” on the cocktail parties
Sylvester Stallone is expected at a festival dinner tied to Carbonadi Vodka. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul are featured around Dos Hombres, which is a mezcal rather than a tequila, though it is constantly described as one. The celebrity agave and spirits boom is very much still represented.
Celebrity booze and celebrity sobriety, sharing the same festival program. That is the 2026 drinks market in one weekend.
Moderation is becoming an occasion, not an identity
The old way of thinking about this split people into two camps: drinkers and non-drinkers. That binary is breaking down, and festivals are among the first places you can see it happen.
Premium hospitality now has to serve at least three groups: people who drink normally, people who moderate, and people who abstain, plus a growing number who switch between alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks during the same evening. That last group is the one that changes everything, because it means non-alcoholic drinks are no longer for a minority who never drink. They are for the majority who sometimes do not.
That matches what the data says elsewhere. Younger drinkers are drinking less often, European shoppers are cutting back in large numbers, and the non-alcoholic category is growing while most alcoholic ones shrink. A wine festival adding an NA dinner is not a novelty. It is catching up.
What a good alcohol-free dinner has to do
The bar for a fully non-alcoholic dinner at a festival like this is high, and it is worth saying why. Wine pairing does a specific job: acidity cuts fat, tannin meets protein, sweetness balances spice. A serious NA pairing has to do the same work without the alcohol, which is genuinely difficult and which the best restaurants have only started to get good at in the last few years.
That is the real test of this dinner, and of the category. The non-alcoholic wines and beers have improved dramatically; the most interesting NA pairings now use teas, ferments, verjus, shrubs and house-made infusions rather than trying to imitate wine. If the chefs pull that off, the dinner will be remembered for the food rather than for what was missing.

The last word
The name on the banner says wine and food, and that is increasingly a description of where the festival came from rather than what it now sells. Premium hospitality is broadening to serve everyone at the table, whatever is in their glass, and the people running one of America’s biggest food festivals have decided that a sober brunch belongs on the same weekend as Steak & Whiskey.
Nobody is abandoning alcohol here. They are adding a seat for the person who is not drinking tonight, and charging them the same for it. That is the change.
The festival still sells whiskey, tequila and Champagne. It has simply worked out that the person not drinking tonight is a customer too.
